Whether viewed as free improvisation or ad hoc collective composition, such an approach owes its success to the listening abilities and inventiveness of the musicians involved, as well as to their desire to participate in the instantaneous creation of the composition as it unfolds
On March 14, 2014, we made a circle of four chairs in my bedroom. Josh brought his good microphones.
I can’t recall if it happened spontaneously or if I suggested it, but we played a series of short pieces.
Here is the result of a half-day of improvisations interspersed with conversations (recorded but that you will not hear.)
