  • La vie, c’est simple, new CD by Derome / Hétu duo

Thursday, March 21, 2002 New releases

An intimate and disconcerting duo composed of Joane Hétu (saxophone, voice) and Jean Derome (saxophone, flutes, small instruments, voice), Nous perçons les oreilles presents, four years after their eponymus album, all-new abstract and melancholic songs on La vie, c’est simple. As Joane puts it very clearly: “The result is related to our relationship. This is a work relationship that gives me a lot of liberty and assumes a lot of complicity. Nous perçons les oreilles are very short, naïve and humoristic songs accompanied by radical bruitist music.”

Created for “Une exposition de musique” (Montréal, 2000), also performed at the Festival international de musique actuelle de Victoriaville (2000) and in March 2002 at Cinquième salle of Place des Arts (Montréal), Jean Derome’s orchestral work Canot-camping is finally issued on CD. This 100th release of the Ambiances Magnétiques label is an extraordinary musical journey in which twelve inescapable figures of Québec new music scene takes us on a delicate, clear and moving excursion.

First solo CD by Jean Derome!

Thursday, February 21, 2002 New releases

“Is it the best of all possible worlds…?” (Vital, The Netherlands) It is a surprise to notice after more than fifteen albums that Le magasin de tissu (The Fabric Shop) is Jean Derome first solo album! But it is true, and fans as much as novices will find something rewarding in this intimate and innovative album. An adventure composed of improvisation and surprising juxtapositions. Plunging into his suitcase full of game calls, flutes, toys and found instruments, Jean Derome draws short improvisations from them, captures them on CD and then associates them randomly with a simultaneous playback by three CD players. A remarkable work in which a brilliant composer works with himself in a simple and efficient manner.

    Polaroïde, André Duchesne’s new album

Thursday, February 21, 2002 New releases

“… an interesting context for him, as the music is all about modern chamber music and improvisation.” (Vital, The Netherlands) André Duchesne, Pierre Tanguay and Jean René are three gifted musicians who don’t have to give proof of their talents anymore. Three musicians concerned with details, attentive to the subtle variations and back on Polaroïde with beautiful jazz improvisations, calm and refined. Tenth album by André Duchesne, Polaroïde is in constant equilibrum between chamber jazz and classic improvisation. A warm coloured album, precious snapshots made with pleasant memories.
