Ce CD explore à sa manière, le spleen particulier du «jazz de chambre» et du «folk blues», en hommage à son principal instigateur des années soixantes, le clarinettiste américain, Jimmy Giuffre. Il a été arrangeur dans le Big Band de Tommy Dorsey et celui de Buddy Rich. Il est l’instigateur du «Free Style».

Jouant de plusieurs instruments, il a fait exploser les styles, il a bousculé l’ordre établi en explorant les formes, les sons, les harmonies et les rythmes.

Une musique d’exploration, sensorielle, intuitive qui s’adresse aux atmosphères, aux couleurs environnementales et à l’imagerie. Deux des compositions ont été commandées: Vol de nuit et L’alchimiste et l’enlumineur. À mille lieues de toute idée d’école, aussi éloigné qu’il se peut de toute identification à un style, et avec la complicité de deux instrumentistes qui partagent son goût du risque et son amour de l’expression, il dévoile les beautés cachées des images qu’il projette. Un bonheur de la rencontre, de l’affirmation et du jeu.

Toutes les compositions sont de David Bussières à l’exception de Y fait frette à Madrid collaboration de Chantal Bergeron.

Le groupe est formé de David Bussières (guitares), Chantal Bergeron (violon), Simon Dolan (contrebasse) et Francis Roberge (percussions).

De signature contemporaine, puisant à l’intérieur des palettes sonores et culturelles, cette symphonie d’ambiances variées que nous offre La Spirale de l’escargot est un pur plaisir.

Son univers réunit d’emblée des personnalités aux multiples facettes qui pourraient se situer quelque part entre le classique, musiques de films, aux réminiscences un peu Grapelli, un peu Django, mais définitivement contemporaines.

Une musique précisément dessinée, piquée d’humour, de sensualité et d’énergie renouvelée. Il faut souligner la présence de Chantal Bergeron et de son violon. Elle possède une technique insoupçonnée, un son et un lyrisme fascinant, sans oublier la qualité de l’attaque et de la précision des lignes mélodiques – à découvrir -.

D’ailleurs, c’est ce qui fait le charme de ce CD.

Un disque composé d’allégories sonores aux parfums gitans, argentins, swing traditionnel, «slow» langoureux, complainte, country-western avec Crazy Cowboys (Encore une fois, notons la présence exceptionnelle du violon).

Nathalie Derome works on this CD together with Guillaume Dostaler (voice & amp; synthesizer) and René Lussier (guitar, daxophone & amp; voice). The CD contains 11 tracks with “parodisiaques chansons” or French chanson from the paradise. Nathalie sings all songs in French and is able to create a certain atmosphere in each song. These atmospheres are created through the use of different musical tempos within each track. The songs receive a dramatic sphere when the music is in a low tempo and the words are intimate. The track turns almost into spoken word. While joyful songs have an up tempo. The vocals are the most important parts of the song and Nathalie is absolutely brilliant in her performance, she is able to put drama and lyric into the words. Instruments (mostly 2 in each track) are absolutely only present on the background and guides the words.

As general conclusion we can say that this is a CD full of lyrical songs with very strong vocals from Nathalie and intimate guided with instruments by Guillaume and René.

Joane Hétu (alto saxophone & vocals) is assisted with 4 other musicians who plays several instruments. This resulted in a very intimate CD. The music is a combination of improvisation music and contemporary classical music. The large compositions are build on tunes and melodies repeated several times, with in between short interruptions of sounds. All in such a tranquillity that it becomes almost immortal music from past ages with a dada attitude. The piano and the vocals are the main instruments which gives to the music its atmosphere. In the enclosed booklet you find the text of the vocals. Vocals in French language which fits very carefully with the music highlighted with the same intimate atmosphere as the music is.
