It’s no easy task adapting the work of modern classical composer Igor Stravinsky. But if there’s a group up for the challenge, it’s Montréal-based avant-garde outfit Quartetski. In honour of the 100th anniversary of the symphonic songwriter’s magnum opus The Rite of Spring, the fanciful five-piece has offered up a reinterpretation of the two-part classic in the form of Quartetski Does Stravinsky, which you can stream in full ahead of its October 10 release on Ambiances Magnétiques.

The ensemble is made up of Pierre-Yves Martel (viola da gamba, objects), Isaiah Ceccarelli (drums), Bernard Falaise (electric guitar), Philippe Lauzier (bass clarinet, soprano saxophone) and Joshua Zubot (violin), and according to a press release, fans of the Russian composer and his original compositions “will find these experimental re-workings are surprising and exciting, and new ears will be just as engaged and entertained.”
