They had this LP for sale at the Sala Rossa last Sunday, when I went to see Kaze perform, so I snatched it. Released last year. A recording from 1973 in Radio-Canada’s studios, featuring Quebec’s very first free improvisation group. Forty minutes of thrills. This band was as hot as Peter Brötzmann’s or Cecil Taylor’s ensembles: power, finesse, and inspiration that wouldn’t quit. With Jean Préfontaine (sax, flute), Yves Charbonneau (trumpet), Jean-Guy Poirier (drums), and the thundering Yves Bouliane (doublebass).
