The Indistinguishables comprises the spoken common names of seventy species of moth sighted in the UK (some native species, some irregular visitors, some extinct), each accompanied by a fleeting soundtrack of a single chord or gesture. The music unfolds through a sequence of harmonies, which frame categories of allusion in the “found poetry” of the names: the cosmos, the supernatural, the macabre, the pastoral, the ephemeral, etc. Each name / gesture is a single musical object, separated by a pause or silence, like moth specimens pinned to a board.
