MAI (Montréal, arts interculturels) presents inspiring East-West meetings on December 10 — 11, 2004, by bringing together talented musicians with an unusual variety of instruments in a never-before-experienced improvisational combo. Ganesh Anandan, Ziya Tabassian, Martin Tétreault, Malcolm Goldstein, Rainer Wiens, Kiya Tabassian and [masoumi_ba], each will draw from the strong tradition of musical improvisation within their culture to create a new and unusual sound.

Éric Mattson, artistic director of the Oral label, presents the concert series Transitors et autres circuits (TAC). The next edition will be held on November 26, 2004 at Montréal’s Musée juste pour rire with Diane Labrosse, David Sanson, Mathias Delplanque, Daniel Olson, and Szkieve. The two next events will be featuring works by Nancy Tobin, David Kristian, and i8u on December 15, 2004 and by Ælab, Magali Babin, and Tim Hecker on December 17, 2004, this time at Oboro’s new media laboratory (Montréal).

Ensemble en pièces, who just released its first album, Jardin d’exil, will play live in Montréal on November 24, 2004, at the Maison de la culture du Plateau-Mont-Royal.

An important event is shaping up in Québec City (Québec)… Machines 13! A unique concert featuring three groups that define improvised new music: Les Poules (Joane Hétu, Diane Labrosse, Danielle Palardy Roger), Klaxon Gueule (Michel F Côté, Bernard Falaise, Alexandre St-Onge) and morceaux_de_machines (Érick d’Orion, A_dontigny). The concert will be held at Méduse’s Studio d’essai Saturday November 20, 2004 at 8pm.

Together on stage for the first time, improvisers Jean Derome (saxophones, flute, small objects, voice), Joane Hétu (alto saxophone, voice) and Lee Pui Ming (piano, voice) will roar on November 18, 2004, at La Sala Rossa (Montréal).

Paul Grégoire will launch his first album, Douleur sourde, with a “happy hour” concert on November 17, 2004, at Montréal’s L’Inspecteur Épingle.
