Grand groupe régional d’improvisation libérée (GGRIL)

GGRIL is a motley crew of improvising musicians based out of small-town Rimouski, eastern Québec (Canada). For over 15 years, they have been exploring the possibilities opened by compositions for improvisers and spontaneous cocreation. Once called a “post-structuralist village band”, GGRIL brings its unique energy to leaders of the free-improv world such as Evan Parker, Ingrid Laubrock, Lori Freedman, John Butcher, Xavier Charles, Lisa Cay Miller, Gus Garside, Allison Cameron, Jean Derome, Caroline Kraabel. The orchestra has released 7 albums, among which the most recent triple-disc Sommes exemplifies GGRIL members’ and collaborators’ creative art: focussed, yet totally off-the-wall. More
