Trombonist Jeremy Berkman is a graduate of Juilliard School of Music and Oberlin Conservatory and College (with degrees in music and economics), where he studied with Thomas Cramer and Per Brevig. More recently, he has studied sackbut with Greg Ingles. Jeremy is the Principal Trombonist of the Vancouver Opera Orchestra, and a member of the sackbut-centred Cappella Borealis. He first encountered Owen Underhill’s music performing modern trombone alongside viola da gamba and recorder in Owen’s remarkable opera, Star Catalogues. Jeremy is a co-founder with Owen of Vancouver based Turning Point Ensemble, and in 2011 was honoured with Vancouver’s Mayor’s Arts Award (Music). He has contributed to over 40 commercially released recordings and is featured with the Bozzini String Quartet in Still Image (music of Owen Underhill) on the Centrediscs label. With The Peggy Lee Band, led by cellist Peggy Lee, he has toured nationally and internationally, and as a band member been nominated for a Juno Award.
