Ipso Facto is a band composed of David Bussières (guitars), Chantal Bergeron (violin), Simon Dolan (double bass) and Francis Roberge (percussions). They present their first CD on the Monsieur Fauteux, m’entendez-vous? label, the dynamic and entertaining La spirale de l’escargot.

L’Orkestre des pas perdus takes its brilliant exhuberance to Paris (France) for a series of three concerts, May 16 to 18, 2002. Just before its parisian excursion, the Orkestre stops at Reus’ Festival Trapezi (Spain) from May 9 to 12, and plays also May 15 at Barcelona’s jazz club “La Boîte.” The Québec public will be able to catch the Orkestre live very soon, for they will attend St-Fortunat’s Festival International de Musique Incroyable, June 15 and 16, 2002.

Created around pianist Lee Pui Ming from Toronto, clarinettist Lori Freedman from Winnipeg, and percussionist Danielle Palardy Roger from Montréal, this concert series will highlight the participation of women in improvised music. Canevas 2002 presents four nights of free concerts, from May 2 to 4, 2002 at Calixa-Lavallée cultural center (Montréal).

An exceptionnal orchestra of twelve of the most active musicians from Québec’s new music scene presents the “Peace Prayer for John Coltrane” concert, March 28, 2001 at Casa del Popolo (Montréal). Improvisers from all tendencies are reunited for a majestic night of music freely adapted from John Coltrane’s classic compositions “Om” and “Ascension.” With Jean Derome, Philémon, Lori Freedman, John Heward, Will Glass, Sam Shalabi, Andrew Dickson, Julie Rousse, Alexandre St-Onge, André Asselin, Nicolas Caloia and A_dontigny.

“Lee Pui Ming moulds piano and vocal into a gleeful avant-garde concoction that is all her own.” (Eye, Canada) Toronto resident Lee Pui Ming’s new CD, Who’s Playing, is a series of strong and invigorating piano, saxophone and voice improvisations recorded with musician and producer Joane Hétu. The album was launched at Toronto’s Music Gallery on February 23, 2002 with a concert the two performers and drummer Danielle Palardy Roger.
