Ten sound-graffiti artists split into nine units create a resounding mural using 40 tags in succession or overlapping, like the brief and unique signatures that adorn the walls of big cities.

We could imagine that each guitar string is one thread in a piece of lace: 120 threads interwoven to make hemstitched lace, of the metal and electric variety. I wish to thank the people coughing in the hall who we could think of as the workers in the lace factory, as well as the occasional background noise which represents the clattering sound of lace weaving.

Les états is one movement of the piece Préoccupant, c’est préoccupant, commissioned by Quatuor Bozzini and premiered in Montréal in 2015. This movement became a separate piece made up of nine states, like nine places or nine sensations. Each state uses a simple lexicon.

a) A LONG TONE and it’s variations

b) A CHARACTERISTIC: chaotic like life — intangible like the mind — military like the regime — glowing like fire — still like the statue

c) A MUSICAL INSTRUCTION
