Christian Wallumrød

Born in 1972 in Kongsberg (Norway), Christian Wallumrød is heralded as a leading figure of the young generation of Norwegian musicians/composers. He has been active in jazz and free improvisation circles since 1992. An ECM recording artist since 1996, Wallumrød first released the critically-acclaimed No Birch (1996), followed with several albums by his Christian Wallumrød Ensemble and the Dans les arbres quartet. As a pianist, Wallumrød plays in many ensembles, performs solo recitals, and takes part to various ad hoc free improvisation groupings. He has performed in various festivals in Norway, Finland, Germany, the UK, Ireland, France, Switzerland, Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Estonia, Slovenia, Italy, China, Canada, and the USA. Wallumrød works regularly with singer Sidsel Endresen, drummer Audun Kleive (Generator X), the trio Close Erase, and Canadian pianist Paul Bley. More
