Ivar Grydeland
Born in Trondheim (Norway) in 1976, Ivar Grydeland studied music at his home town’s conservatory, where Paal Nilssen-Love, Ingebrigt Håker Flaten, and Ingar Zach also attended. He founded the avant-garde jazz and free improvisation label SOFA with Ingar Zach. In 2001, he co-founded the free improvisation group No Spaghetti Edition with Zach and bassist Tonny Kluften. Since then, he has performed solo and with the collectives Huntsville and Dans les arbres. He also performs in free jazz concerts with drummer Jon Christensen and in noise improvisation settings with guitarist Øyvind Torvund. Grydeland has toured Scandinavia, Europe, Canada, the USA, and Japan. He has been teaching at the State Academy of Music in Oslo since 2003. He is still co-directing Sofa with Zach, Martin Taxt, and Kim Myhr. More
