Recorded “live in the studio” in a joyful atmosphere, under Jean Derome’s musical direction, Le bal culls 16 of Fanfare Pourpour’s recent compositions. An authentic big band like they don’t make anymore, with brass instruments, saxophones, clarinets, guitars, banjo, accordions, violins and percussion, the Fanfare invites you to join the dance, the dream and the discovery of urban pastoral music.

Gracefully playing original and colorfully arranged tunes by Luzio Altobelli, Suzanne Babin, Philippe Brault, Guido Del Fabbro, Jean Derome, Normand Guilbeault, Stéphane Ménard, Bernard Poirier, Pierre Emmanuel Poizat, Luc Proulx, Nemo Venba and Claude Vendette, Fanfare Pourpour delivers with this new album a bunch of lucky-charm waltzes, French songs, Jazz and Cajun-tinged tunes, sophisticated improvisations and New-Orleans swing.

The spirit of Fanfare Pourpour is both sad and joyful, like feeling the urge to dance, cry or laugh, the urge to kiss one’s lover or to get drunk; it gives tunes influenced by the smell of Eastern Europe, the spirit of Fellini’s films, the Gypsies and Kurt Weill, the German cabaret and the French caf’-conc’, the urchin spirit, Jacques Tati, Jean Renoir, Children of Paradise…
